The former Spanish international midfielder Xabi Alonso (37), 2010 World Champion, will make his debut as coach of a professional team taking the reins of the reserve of Real Sociedad in the third division, announced Saturday the club trainer .
"Real Sociedad has reached an agreement with Xabi Alonso to lead (the reserve) for the next two seasons," the San Sebastian club said in a statement. Team B, nicknamed "the Sanse", evolves in Segunda B, the third Spanish division which most clubs are professional.
Formed in the Basque club, Xabi Alonso has played in Liverpool (2004-2009), Real Madrid (2009-2014) and Bayern Munich (2014-2017), where he ended his career two years ago.
The former defensive midfielder with an impressive track record (one World Cup, two Euros, two league champions ...) started as a technician this season on the bench of one of Real Madrid's underdogs.
